He's got what the ladies want...

Well Sydney Sam has landed and I just came back from a double date with Paul , Sam and my work colleagueTash.
Tash and Sam have been conducting an email relationship for some time and today was their first face to face meeting. Generously Sam shouted lunch and took us to the salubrious establishment RED ROOSTER, BAGOT ROAD. Not only world reknowned for its ambient atmosphere and excellent customer service, the cuisine is to die for and the views are spectacular. The Mega Bunnings being built across the highway is a particularly fascinating local landmark.
Lunch was over all too quickly and Sam and Paul departed in style like the fine examples of masculinity they are in their rented Hyandai Getz. Unfortunately Tash and I had to return to work and couldn't join them for the rest of the days adventure.
We are looking forward to a big night out at the Casino for our follow up date and I am excited.
Poker machines, second hand smoke and cheap drinks, all of the ingredients for a smashing night out.
So I must go now and freshen up - thanks Sam, we could never say you don't take us anywhere.

Matilda

Laying in bed, after having partied out Saturday night with friends and family , I was about to drift into sweet bacardi cushioned unconsciousness when Paul turned to me and said " I love that f*$%#ing baby"
Well... how could I disagree, I too love that f*$%#ing baby. We had just had another wonderful evening in her company - as always she had charmed the pants off of everyone present and once again stolen the limelight from the former centre of attention, Aunty L-M.

Matilda has been around for less than two years, however there is no way I could even imagine her not being an integral part of my life. That little moppet can control her Uncle Paul and I with no more than a sly smile or a selectively placed giggle.
Being an aunt has brought a dimension to my life that is incomparable. I love my family with everything I have, but the visceral urge to protect and love this kid is unlike anything I have ever felt before.
I really do love that f*$%#ing baby.

What a feelin...

Theres nothing like a bit of Karaoke on a Saturday night, and as Tracey and I show, dressing up in old clothes that I wore in my fabulous nightclubbing days, and high kicking in the loungeroom really are the keys to a good night in.

What a weekend of joy. My Adelaide Aunt was in town and we had family shenanigans on the Friday night. This was followed on Saturday with good times and great rock'n'roll, courtesy of Sing Star and rock chicks L-M & Trace.

I don't care what the haters say, Karaoke is how all the hip kids spend their leisure time and it is by no means for loser, dags or freaks.....narcissists and 80's tragics perhaps, but not freaks.

Tracey gets her flashdance on...

The Friday 3

The weekend is looming, I am bored as batshit at work and have no plans for the next 48 hours other than watching cable, reading the weekend papers and hanging out with my cat.
I have nothing to tell you , as nothing has happened and I am feeling pretty ambivalent about the whole blogging thang. Anyhoo - here are 3 random facts for you to ruminate upon;

The coup in Thailand was seemingly all the more bloodless and civilized thanks to Channel 9 and their coverage of it. Any time you saw footage of tanks and man with big guns in the streets of Bangkok it was accompanied by the soothing sounds of Moby. Now that sure is a peaceful coup.

My good friend Sydney Sam has announced he will be visiting us to celebrate his 30th Birthday next weekend - he is a keen skater and loves to roller boogie. That's him above. Obviously he has what the ladies want and I know he is looking forward to coming up here and sharing the love. He was pushing for a roller boogie birthday party but has settled for a bbq in my backyard - so any of you around the traps next Saturday, you are welcome to join us from 4pm onward.

My work colleague Tash, whom I share a cubicle with, is today wearing a stonewashed denim jacket highlighted with some delightful bedazzling artistry. She looks not unlike the lady in the picture above. Good on you Tash for pushing the limits of good taste and style in the office! You go girl.

Have a good weekend y'all.

Darwin Boy and the City

My friend Sam has recently moved to Sydney to take up a high powered jobby in a big city office. I received an email from him this morning;

"I unleashed my inner bogan this morning by cranking my Metallica CD.

I rocked out in my car

There is one thing about Sydney that frustrates me, it is full of ponces who want to talk about their shoes.

It is not a good combination to get out of your Metallica rocking car and be forced to ride sixteen floors in an elevator with two men discussing their shoes"

Asahi and Kodak are taking a little time getting used to each other. I wanted to share with you one of their favourite games. Asahi watches, with a stupid look on his face waiting for any indication that Kodak could just possibly be up for some sort of play - or at the very least a good bum sniff. Kodak sits there looking as grumpy and supercillious as possible, refusing to move a muscle or even twitch a whisker. I think it only comes to an end when one of them gets hungry.

The family that sings together, stays together

It is safe to state that the highlight of our recent sibling sojourn to Kali, was the Karaoke. There is no doubt about that. Danielle has the Playstation 2 game Singstar - and I tell you it is a revolution in home karaoke'ing. Here we have Brett kickin' it to a bit of Run DMC;

Satine the dog is the most attentive of audiences.

We really did spend alot of our time plugged in to that machine. Please note evidence on the coffee table next to Danielle of our other major pastime while in Kali - eating Hungry Jacks. (The 6000 km - 7 hour drive, set the wheels in motion for a reliance on drive by fast food that we just couldn' t seem to kick.)
I have since purchased a copy of the game in question for myself and we gave it the Stones Darwin Debut on Saturday night. Needless to say, I rocked - however that, is another post for another day.

Kalgoorlie, regardless of the fact that it is a dusty, islolated, redneck poulated, town based on a massive hole in the ground - was actually alot of fun and I can see why Danielle stays there. She has a really great bunch of friends- all of which were exceptionally friendly and welcoming to Brett and I. Really really nice people. Her boyfriend is a very good bloke and she has a rewarding and interesting job.
The historical aspect of the town really fascinated me. Anyone that has been loving up Deadwood as much as Paul and I have , will understand the draw of learning about the early gold mining years in Australia's very own wild wild west.
I am amazed by the temerity and optimism of these crazy moolies back in the 1800's, trying to find their fortune in the blistering heat of the Australian desert, with no water and 6000 kilometres to the nearest major metropolis.

A commentary on a trip to Kalgoorlie couldn't be complete without mention of the massive hole in the ground. The Super Pit has incorporated what was once known as "The Golden Mile". This was discovered back in 1883 by a very luck Irishman called Paddy Hannan. Since that discovery more than 50 million ounces of gold have been mined from this area! Wackydoo!

I can assure you that the superpit really is super. That is certainly one big hole in the ground.

Here Brett and I demonstrate how big it really is by reenacting what it would look like if we were picked up by one of the buckets of one of the diggy things that they use. It is my Flickr site - so all of the photos that we have taken will eventually be posted there.

So all in all is was a great trip , Danielle and her friends rock and I will certainly go back again - but will fly this time.

Remember me?

Hello everyone,
remember me? thought I was dead? didn't really give a shit?
Well I am back kids so get ready for some more exquisite reading pleasure!

Alot of water has gushed under the bridge since the last time I graced the internet with my somewhat dubious prescence. I have moved house, gone on holiday and finally met my brother from another mother and his lovely wife. We have assimilated our dog into the family unit (Kodak has finally given in and accepted that she must share our attention) I decided to move to Sydney next year and then decided to stay in Darwin. I have consumed countless litres of wine while pondering the existential guff that we all consider at some point and have come to the conclusion that I am pretty darn happy-and hey, maybe I should let everyone know via my long neglected blog.

But first things first - the holiday!
Brett and I travelled out to the wild wild west and suprisingly returned unscathed. We had been planning this daring expedition for some time and it was as crazy/beautiful/stressful/hilarious as we thought it was going to be. The trip had a few motivating factors - and I know you are dying to hear them so here they are....

1) To visit sister Danielle. Danielle has lived in Kalgoorlie for about 5 years now and neither Brett nor I had ever visited. We thought it was about time. (slack buggers we are) She visits us a few times a year, but still it's not enough and we really do miss that skank. Also, never having ventured that far east of our great Western State it was the perfect opportunity for a road trip and to see some country we'd never seen before.

2) To meet the brother from another mother. (henceforth on this blog known as BFAM) Those of you whom I see regularly would be aware that recently we found out that Dad had a son born 6 years before I was and 2 years before marrying mum. This bloke was adopted by a loving family and upon reaching a certain age chose to no longer ignore his curiousity and set about finding his biological parents. Luckily for us he found Dad(I am not so sure if BFAM feels as lucky however...) and we have been in contact ever since. This was our first face to face meeting and I am pleased to report it went swimmingly.

3) To catch up with my very good friend Jacqueline - or whom we now refer to as Jaqueloonan (long, boring story) Jaqueloonan moved to Perth aout 10 years ago with another old mate Sarah and yours truly. I bailed out about a year in, Sarah moved back to Darwin with Perth born hubby Craig a few years ago and Jaq is still there. I love her and miss her so getting to spend some quality time before and after the Kali sojourn with her, her laconic but lovely partner Vic and new baby Sarge, was delightful.

4) Familial bonding. The haters doubted us...doubted the three of us could last 5 minutes alone together-let alone 6 hours in a car and one week in the same house! Well we did it..just... Thanks to the assistance of a playstation karaoke game and alot of beer and bacardi we rocked that sibling bonding! Bring it on I say...no blood was let whatsoever!

Anyhoo - thats the summary - in further posts I will elaborate on each point and even provide photographic evidence. But to warm you up for it , here is a pic of Brett and I representing and keeping it real on the westside....it was really cold for us woosy tropical babes.
